When we were changing accountants for Caldera Ltd, I knew I wanted to join Gareth. The transition was seamless, and their expertise in the hospitality industry has been invaluable. They handle everything from bookkeeping to payroll, allowing me to focus on running my business.
The Problem: The Constraints of DIY Bookkeeping
Hospitality business owners often don’t have the luxury of time. Running a restaurant or café is demanding, and financial management frequently falls to the bottom of the priority list. Many owners try to manage their own bookkeeping, leading to subpar results. We encountered this with Villa Romana in 2023. They were handling the books themselves, and it wasn't going well. Despite recognising the problem, they were hesitant about our fees, focusing on cost rather than value.
The Solution: Cost- benefit Analysis and Professional Financial Management
We understand the concerns around cost, which is why we conducted a cost-benefit analysis for Villa Romana. We compared the time they spent on bookkeeping multiplied by their hourly rate against our fees. The analysis showed that our fees were comparable to their own wages, providing them with professional, accurate financial management for a similar cost. They were more than happy to sign off once they saw the value proposition. It’s also worth noting, that we’re insured for errors or mistakes in the bookkeeping work that we carry out, whereas business owners are not– we take on the risk.
By letting us handle the bookkeeping, they saved time and improved their financial accuracy, allowing them to focus on delivering excellent food and service. Additionally, once we took over their accounts, we discovered £20,000 in unclaimed VAT and £5,000 from unclaimed Employment Allowance, reducing their employer's NI bill. Overall, we saved them £25,000 in tax.
